FAQs
Wedding Cakes and Celebration Cakes FAQs
Q. How do I order a cake?
For all wedding cakes Siobhan recommends a full consultation to discuss your requirements. For other party cakes, cupcakes, layer cakes & whoopie pies please call or send an email.
Q. How far in advance do I need to order my wedding cake?
To avoid disappointment, Siobhan recommends that you try to give 3 - 6 months notice. However, depending on her schedule, she may be able to accept orders at shorter notice.
Q. How much will I expect to pay for my wedding cake?
If you click on the images in Wedding Cakes you will get an idea of costs. The Price Guide details the cost of round and square tiered cakes (All flavours), iced without decoration. The total cost of your wedding cake will depend on the style and complexity of the decoration you choose to add to your cake.
Q. Do you bake your own wedding cakes?
Yes, all of Siobhan’s cakes are home baked to order with only the finest of ingredients.
Q. What flavour cakes do you offer?
Siobhan offers a delicious choice of cake flavours and fillings for you to choose from. Wedding cakes, cupcakes, layer cakes and whoopie pies each have a Flavours page detailing the different options available.
Q. Can I mix the flavours of my wedding cake?
Certainly, each tier of your wedding cake can be a different flavour.
Q. Can we taste the cakes?
Of course! The cake tasting process is a very important & often the most difficult part of your wedding cake journey! While booking your consultation please let Siobhan know what cake flavours you are interested in.
Q. How long before my wedding is the cake prepared?
If you choose the luxury fruit cake then Siobhan will bake this as far in advance as possible to allow the cake to mature. If you choose chocolate biscuit cake or any of the sponge cakes then Siobhan will bake these the week of the wedding.
Q. How do I choose the design of my cake?
When designing a party cake, cupcakes, layer cake or whoopie pies you need to consider the personality of the individual for whom the cake is being made and also the style and theme of the occasion.
With regards to wedding cakes it’s certainly a good idea to bring along the following to your consultation: A copy of your invitation, a picture of your flowers or bouquet together with any colour swatches or pieces of fabric, so Siobhan can incorporate one or more of these elements into the design of your wedding cake.
Q. I want to use fresh flowers on my wedding cake, do I buy them from you?
Your florist will supply any flowers that are required for your cake design.
Q. How do I care for my cake?
Cakes from Primrose Cottage do not like being put in the refrigerator! Once you have received your cake please store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. If you would like to preserve your cake, once cut, it can be refrigerated or frozen.
